A moment of realization...

One thing is for sure and that is I tend to give up easily...When I start learning something, I give up halfway and fail to pursue it to the end. One example would be learning the piano. I lost interest after some time and felt that I was just not talented enough...so I stopped lessons when I was in Secondary 4. Well, I should have mentioned that I was also really lazy and I did not practise as hard as I should.

The next thing that came along was band in IJ and SAJC. I never really excelled at the instruments(oboe and percussion)that were assigned to me again because I was lazy, I lost interest and I couldn't really be bothered.

Guess this is one of the many weaknesses of mine...I give up when I am tired, bored, lack interest or just cannot be bothered. Sometimes this can render me as weird or strange to others but I really cannot find the determination to continue..This weakness surfaced again while learning how to snowboard....Well snowboarding was really fun at first but when my butt, wrist, knees and thighs started to ache, I really did not feel like continuing any longer and I just sort of gave up.

I guess I am really a slow learner too la...On the first day, I did not complete the entire lesson as my snow shoes were too tight for me and thus my toes were hurting like crazy. On the second day, our instructor Jin brought us down the family slope and I became so tired halfway that I totally lacked the motivation to want to continue snowboarding. I kept falling and I could not find the strength to lift myself up again. So at some parts of the slope, I took off my snowboard and started walking down the slope until I felt less tired and then strapped on the snowboard again.

At the end of the run, we could all take the chairlift up to where we started off. It was meant to be exciting but I was completely exhausted and I did not even know how to get onto the chairlift with only one foot attached to the snowboard. Everyone else had already gone ahead of me and so I struggled to get onto the chairlift by myself and struggled to keep hold of the snowboard with my other hand so that I would not be supporting the entire snowboard with only one foot. The worst part was getting off the chairlift. We had to skate with the snowboard as soon as we got off. But because we were not yet taught how to skate with snowboard, I fell the minute I got off the chairlift and the person had to stop the chairlift so that it would not hit me.

I was the slowest in the group and everyone ended up having to wait for me all the time...so I guess that wasn't a really good feeling. So I decided that on the third day of lessons, I would just stay on the top area with several small slopes and practise with another beginner class while the rest go down the long family slope again.

The world is really small man..I met Selene(from my JC)in the group that I was assigned to!Amazing!haha...She's on holiday with three of her other friends and I was really glad that I met her there! We had lunch together, snowboarded together, played with snow and basically just chatted.

Although I may make the experience of snowboarding for the first time at Whistler sound really bad, that is not exactly the whole truth I guess...hehe..overall I had fun la..just that I came to a point of realization that I am a person who tends to give up easily and I totally cannot excel in anything that I learn.

Here are some pretty pictures of snow and snowboarding of my 3 days 2 nights at Whistler!

Where the Greyhound bus stopped us at...

The first upclose encounter of snowy mountains

Where we rented our snowboarding equipment! There were so many cute guys from all over the world working at this place...ha..I particularly remember Pete from Australia who helped me get many pairs of snowboarding shoes and even helped me to wear them!He was really nice, not to mention extremely charming too..ha..but too bad I could not take a photo with him on the last day as he was not around...boo..

Me and my snowboard!Snowboarding is way too cool for me...heh...

Cass's favourite British guy at the ski&board shop...

My swollen hand after the whole thing...Think I have built up tons of muscles from all that carrying of the extremely heavy snowboard and walking uphill...I have blue black on my butt too after all that falling!!

Overall it was a good trip with the guys...just that I was pretty stressed up about my upcoming exams so I had to study at night when we returned to our lodge. Thanks to everyone for making this trip a success! To Mabel, Cass, Chris, Joe and Selena who bought all the food needed for the trip like sandwiches, cup noodles, cookies, chips, cereal, marcaroni and cheese etc..and also to Yanxiang and Chee Kian for being the big brothers of the group and constantly taking care of all of us...You guys rock man!!
Thanks also to Fay for lending me her snowboarding pants and Stella for her waterproof gloves...those really came in handy...=)
